Prerequisite: Motion Picture Fundamentals. 42 classroom hours.
This course guides you through the planning, shooting, and editing of a documentary. You will build onto your existing production skills by learning techniques unique to non-fiction film, such as vérité (observational) shooting, interviewing, and using archival material. The class will consider the ethics of presenting real people on screen. In addition to production, you will analyze recent documentaries in order to understand how reality can be presented in cinematically potent ways. Grading is based on practical exercises, writing, a final project, and class participation.
